Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM 15.6-Inch FHD Notebook

The Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM is a lower mid range machine that should easily cope with everyday computing tasks. Email, surfing the web, updating social status, word processing and even some casual gaming should all be well within its capabilities.

The machine is driven by a 7th Generation Intel Core i3-7100U processor. This is a dual-core component based on Intel’s Kaby Lake architecture. Each core is clocked at 2.4 GHz. Unlike more powerful (and expensive!) processors, the i3-7100U doesn’t feature Turbo Boost technology, meaning that the speed of each core is fixed at 2.4GHz, rather than varying to meet the needs of the current software application. It does, however, feature HyperThreading, allowing it to handle up to 4 threads at once.

The processor is supported by 4GB of DDR4 memory. As a general rule, the more memory a system has, the better it will perform; 4GB is less than is usually found in more powerful laptops, but is fairly common for machines of this class, and should be enough to allow the E 15 E5-575-33BM to run the supplied copy of Windowa 10 Home without difficulty.

Features :

  • Intel Core i3-7100U CPU
  • 4GB DDR4
  • 1TB Hard Drive
  • 8x DVD Drive
  • 15.6 Inch Full HD Display
  • Up to 12-hours Battery Life
  • Windows 10 Home

For permanent storage of your documents, music, pictures, videos and, of course, software applications, the machine is fitted with a 1TB 5400 RPM hard disk drive. This should provide more than enough storage capacity for most users. However, should you find that you eventually need more space, the Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM, provides easy access to internal components, making hard drive and memory upgrades a cinch.

Staying with disk drives for a moment, the machine is fitted with an 8X DVD-Super Multi Double-Layer (M-DISC enabled) optical drive. Although optical drives are arguably less important than they once were, they are still very useful to have, whether it be for watching a DVD from your collection, installing software from original media or backing up your data. They are often omitted from smaller, less expensive laptops, and it’s good to see one included with this machine.

The machine’s 15.6 inch, Full HD, Widescreen, LED-backlit, 1920 x 1080 pixel display is driven by an integrated Intel HD Graphics 620 Graphics Processing Unit. Integrated graphics processors have improved significantly in recent years, and while they are still no match for dedicated GPUs when it comes to demanding game-play, the HD Graphics 620 should be more than capable of handling the kinds of routine tasks that this general purpose laptop is designed for.

Sooner or later, you will probably want or need to connect the laptop to an external display, perhaps to watch a movie in comfort or to make a presentation for work. For this purpose, the machine is equipped with an HDMI port, making it easy to hook up to an HDTV or monitor.

As you would expect from a modern laptop, the machine features both wired and wireless networking capabilities. A Gigabit Ethernet port is provided for those who want or need to connect to a wired network, while 802.11ac Wi-Fi featuring MU-MIMO technology (Dual-Band 2.4GHz and 5GHz) makes it easy to connect to wireless networks, either at home, in the office or on the move. The machine also offers Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity, allowing you to attach Bluetooth headsets, mice, and other peripherals, or exchange files wirelessly with cellphones and cameras.

For connecting to wired devices, such as printers, external hard drives and memory sticks, this laptop is equipped with several USB ports; one USB 3.1 port with type C connector, two high speed USB 3.0 ports (one of which offers power-off charging of your devices) and one legacy USB 2.0 port.

Other connectivity options include an SD card reader and a Mic / Headphone combo jack. There is also a built-in HD Webcam (1280 x 720) supporting High Dynamic Range (HDR), which makes the machine video-chat ready out of the box.

The machine measures 10.2 x 15.02 x 1.19 inches, and weighs 5.3 pounds, making it small enough to carry around with ease, yet sturdy enough to withstand the occasional knocks that all laptops eventually have to contend with. And, with a reported battery life of up to 12 hours, you can be sure that you’ll have enough power to get the job done, no matter where you take it!

Overall, the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-575-33BM is an excellent lower mid-range, general purpose laptop. It should handle routine computing tasks without difficulty, and has plenty of storage space for all your documents, pictures, videos and music. It will probably struggle with demanding games and other high-end applications, but then it isn’t, and doesn’t claim to be a gaming laptop. For the kinds of everyday tasks that it was designed for, this machine is well worth considering.
